As beautiful as my island is, there is one thing that I dread seeing every time I go, the strays.
Puerto Rico’s “Satos” or stray dogs, are in crisis, with thousands struggling to survive on the streets, abandoned and often malnourished. We have many local rescues working tirelessly to save as many as possible, but they are overwhelmed and desperately need donations for food, medical care, and transportation. One of the most impactful ways to help is by supporting efforts to relocate these dogs to families or other rescues on the mainland, where they have a better chance of finding loving homes. Every dog or cat rescued is not just another statistic—they have the potential to become a loyal friend, a loving companion, and a new cherished member of the family. Your support can change their fate. Listed below are some of the rescues that have been working for years giving the satos of the island a better life. Any donation you make will help feed another hungry dog or cat, get them veterinary care and the necessary vaccines to get them on their way to getting their forever homes. If you are not able to make a monetary donation, please consider signing up to be a Flight Angel. For your flight back to the US from Puerto Rico, you will be matched up with a rescuer. They will handle all aspects of the pet flight reservation and expenses. About 2 hours prior to your departure a volunteer will meet you at the airport with your flight buddy. You will check your furry friend at the airline counter where they will tag the pet carrier. Next, you will pass through security. A volunteer will meet you outside of your baggage claim gate to pick up your little angel! That's it! You have just helped save a life!
Thank you!
